Porsche will not build hybrid versions of its sports cars says company CEO Michael Macht. Both the 911 and Boxster models are off-limits as far as the German sports car maker’s hybrid plans are concerned, although Porsche is pushing ahead with plans to launch a hybrid version of the Cayenne SUV.

At this year’s Nardo high speed event a lot of new records are being claimed mostly by tuners, who have only one one thing on their minds: going faster! We had the AC Schnitzer BMW as the fastest diesel, the Steinmetz Insignia which is the fastest Opel, and now this, a modified Porsche Cayenne Turbo by TECHART which has set a new speed record for a full-size at 321,2 km/h.

A little more than a year ago, the Porsche tuning specialist at Ruf unveiled their first electric car, the 911-based eRuf. That first iteration was definitely not ready for production, but the crew at Ruf are not known for taking half measures. A few months after the eRuf was shown to the world, the second iteration with more power and lighter batteries appeared as the Greenster at the Geneva Motor Show.

The world debut of the lightest Porsche – the 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder — is at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales will begin in the US next February, with prices starting from $61,200. At a press conference for the auto show, Klaus Berning, Porsche’s executive board member (worldwide sales and marketing), said that the new Boxster Spyder is “distinctly different from its Boxster siblings.”

As we discovered earlier this month, the 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo is one heck of a fast car. The quickest Porsche has ever produced, in fact. So it would take considerable moxie to try and improve on it. Fortunately, 9ff has such moxie, as demonstrated with the company's new Speed9.

How much 911 do you need? Objectively, the difference between the 345-hp bottom-rung Carrera and the latest 500-hp Turbo is not nearly as dramatic as the numbers would suggest. With the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission set for launch control, the Turbo beats the base model from 0 to 60 mph by 1.3 seconds, according to Porsche.

This will probably be the star of this year’s Essen Motor Show! 9ff Speed9 is the ultimate expression of the 997 Turbo and coming in the roadster form it pays tribute to the 356 Speedster of the 50s. 9ff has come up with a new design for the car’s bodykit which is scary but in a cool way! And as usual it packs a massive punch to cope with its badass looks.

The most treasured model in Porsche's history, the Spyder, is about to take to the road again! The German company has announced the release of a new lightweight, driver-focused version of the mid-engined Boxster, known as the Boxster Spyder. Inspired by the 1954 550 Spyder, which stood only three-feet high and weighed a slender 550kg, the Boxster Spyder sports a new, low-slung silhouette with a lightweight, low-lying soft-top and windows.

Porsche’s new CEO has said that the German sports car maker is open to sharing the Panamera platform with other Volkswagen Group brands. He even went so far as to say that (gasp!) the iconic 911 platform could be used across brands. Michael Macht, the new Porsche boss who was practically hand picked by Volkswagen to run the brand after the former CEO was ousted, has said that he would like Porsche to operate as an independent but cooperative pillar within the expanding VW Group umbrella.

The internet has been been crying “wolf” again. Right now the rumor is that this design is for a future Porsche Supercar, built to pick up where the Carrera GT left off. This concept was rendered by Emil Baddal, who is also working with Lamborghini on the successor to the LP670. This representation is very unique, but also seems to follow a strategy that has been going well for Porsche lately. Its profile is a blend of a stretched G37 and a Bugatti Veyron, with a dash of P4/P5 Italian spark thrown in.

Maybe the whole world of social media is second nature to you--MySpace, Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook, you're everywhere, dude. But to the automotive world, social media's a brave experiment and sometimes, a dangerous new frontier. Remember what happened to Honda with those first Accord Crosstour pics on Facebook? It's a lesson learned in what not to wear, and more brightly, in how to respond quickly to avoid a box-office slaughter.

We told you this week that Porsche is planning to build cheaper and smaller vehicles. This fact remained unchanged but today we found out something else: the German manufacturer is now a step closer in producing its own version of the Volkswagen Bluesport Concept unveiled in January at the Detroit Auto Show.

On September 5th, 2009, a competition was held in Papenburg, Germany, to determine the best accelerating car available today. This showdown - one of the coolest, most extreme and rigorous in the automotive world today - is an annual event held by Sport Auto magazine. When these guys have a slug-fest on the race track, they call fighters from all camps.

Beauty, they say, is in the eye of the beholder. And with the whole world beholding the new Porsche Panamera, the myriad tuning firms specializing in Zuffenhausen's finest have been lining up in an effort to give the new four-door a makeover. Following earlier mods released by Gemballa and 9ff, German tuning house Lumma Design has released its take on the Panamera.
