Maybach Brand Coming to an End?

Posted on Mar 17 2008 10:05 AM by adnana

Maybach 62 Landaulet could possibly become the very last model from Maybach, if Daimler decides to end the ultra-luxury line in the years to come. Sales and growth have been poor in recent times compared to rival brands Rolls-Royce and Bentley, with merely 146 units sold last year (10% of the original projected amount). For this reason, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche says it could end soon before the situation goes worse.

He also added that no plans for new models are at hand currently, and even the recently launched Landaulet is not expected to bring any better luck. It will not be a huge loss to abruptly quit the industry in terms of investment, simply because the Maybach 57 and 62 sedans were largely based on the previous generation Mercedes S-Class.

Despite the unhelpful facts above, Maybach still believes that it has done a good job so far. Dr. Dieter claims that the brand has proven that it can compete productively with Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Maybach Laundalet convertible to go into production

In a move that will astonish many, Maybach has decided to build the Laundalet convertible limo concept that we saw at the Detroit motor show last month. And Mercedes’ luxury marque intends to charge an absolutely staggering £680,000 for its most opulent model yet.

For many it will seem a difficult move to understand given the negative reaction the topless Laundalet concept received in Detroit, where many observers described it as 'vulgar'.

Its unconventional design harks back to luxury cars of the fifties, with the rear section of the 62S-based cruiser opening hydraulically so that all and sundry can see the wealthy owner lounging within.

2008 Maybach 57 S

Posted on Feb 19 2007 3:55 AM by Mehwish

Maybach may not be a common brand in the ultra-luxury field, but that is just the way Mercedes-Benz likes it, as only a relative handful are available each year. The 133.5-inch wheelbase 57 is the driver’s Maybach and for 2007 there is a new S (for Special) model featuring a 6-liter biturbo V-12 producing 612 horsepower. The AMG-sourced power plant combined with a tauter suspension configuration and gives the driver a combination of lavish luxury and dynamic handling that will more than stand up to lesser performance and sports models. A 0-100 km (62 mph) time of 5 seconds is claimed. Features of the 57 S include 20-inch spoked wheels, single tone paint in black or silver, modified rear apron, trapezoidal tailpipes and discreet lettering. Four years ago, the Maybach name was revived by M-B for its most luxurious cars. Maybach was a German prestige car of the 1920s and 30s.

Maybach Exelero GT

Just imagine an automobile that combines the elegance and first-class quality of a high-end limousine with the powerful suppleness of a sports coupé. Create a vehicle in your mind’s eye which, with an unladen weight of over 2.66 tons and the dimensions of a small transporter, achieves a maximum speed of over 350 km/h. Conceive an ultra-high performance tire which not only copes with the aforementioned weight, the dimensions and the speed, but also makes the automobile safe, stable and comfortable. Such a vehicle and such tires do not exist. For 99 years, Fulda has been making car tires. For most of this time, the company has advertised its products with special vehicles. Luxury buses, advertising vehicles with special bodies, high-speed buses for tire tests, a whole series of showtrucks, racing cars and - in the 1930s something quite special - streamlined car from the Maybach company which could conduct tire tests at speeds of over 200 km/h....more pics click on heading
