Ever since its introduction in 2006, the Lincoln MKX hasn’t fully delivered on its potential. Based on the Ford Edge, the MKX offered a very generous feature list, but its appearance was deemed too conservative by some (especially the egg-crate grille) and its interior materials—as we pointed out in our Bottom Line of the 2009 Lincoln MKX—left something to be desired in a luxury vehicle.

If you have many leather-bound books and your apartment smells of rich mahogany, then you might be interested in the new Executive Appearance Package option for the 2010 Lincoln MKZ. Available in late summer, the new trim package offers "more traditional luxury appointments" for Lincoln's base sedan, a result of early sales showing buyers preferring well-equipped models.

Fair disclosure – before I drove this car I wanted to hate it. I viewed it as nothing more than a rebadged, chromed up Ford Taurus. Plus Lincoln has made the seemingly fatal mistake of already announcing a more powerful engine to be put in it next year.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally told German publication Auto Motor und Sport that the company is considering bringing the Lincoln brand global.
Lincoln counted 130,700 sales worldwide in 2007, but a tiny one percent of those sales came outside of the North American market. Mulally and Ford seem to believe that Lincoln has got potential to do much more than that. Said the CEO, “We are considering distribution in Europe and Asia. We already sell Lincolns in the Middle East.”
While Lincoln remains competitive in the luxury segment in the U.S., largely on the strength of its Navigator SUV, Ford may find the going slightly tougher when facing the BMW, and Mercedes of the world on their home turf. General Motors for instance, which has attempted to bring its Cadillac brand global in recent years, still only sold a small percentage of its luxury vehicles outside of the U.S. last year; a little more than ten percent.

The Lincoln MKT is the next generation of crossovers for the Lincoln brand. While Lincoln may not be setting the world on fire, it does sell well with SUVs and crossovers. The Navigator continues to be a strong seller, no matter how high gas prices get, and the new MKX has done sold briskly as well...

Ford has big plans for Lincoln. But then, Ford has always had big plans for Lincoln. It just never gets around to executing them. This time, though, insist Dearborn insiders, it's different: We really do have big plans for Lincoln...

Lincoln will be phasing out its second run at the pickup truck market when it discontinues the Mark LT at the end of the 2008 model year, according to an Automotive News report. The Mark LT has been in production since 2005 and has sold 28,117 examples through July 2007 -- short of the 20,000 unit annual sales figure that was projected by the automaker.
While Ford officials have refused to verify the fate of the Mark LT, sources have brought the luxury pickup's demise to light. Based on the Ford F-150 pickup truck, the Mark LT was rumored to undergo a major revision for 2008 -- instead, production will give way to a planned high-end F-150 Platinum edition. The F-150 is scheduled for a 2009 redesign.

Will Lincoln bring its head-turning new MKR concept car to the 2007 Chicago Auto Show in February? Check back to learn more about the MKR prototype that introduces a new design language of “elegant simplicity” on a 4-door coupe, and debuts the all-new, fuel-saving TwinForce engine. Developed to perform comparable or better than V-8 engines, the 3.5-liter gasoline twin-turbocharged direct-injection V-6 delivers 415 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque on renewable E-85 ethanol. The TwinForce delivers 15 percent better fuel economy than a V-8 with similar performance. This one-of-a-kind automobile rolls on 21-inch chrome aluminum wheels wrapped in unique Michelin tires that feature the Lincoln star in its treads. Chrome-trimmed gauges illuminated with Ice Blue lighting can be easily viewed in harmony with the concave spoke steering wheel that includes retractable paddle shifters. Visually, the MKR features clean, uncluttered surfaces, with a significant C-pillar that smoothly transitions into the cantilevered roof. Several of the design elements are likely to appear on future production Lincolns, including the double-wing grille inspired by the 1941 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet.

Following the strong sales launch of the Lincoln Zephyr in the autumn of 2005, the entry-level luxury sedan is reborn for the 2007 model year with a new name – Lincoln MKZ. The new MKZ moniker fits with Lincoln's plan of naming models with alphanumeric abbreviations beginning with MK. Also new is the 3.5-liter V-6 engine that delivers 263 horsepower to the front wheel, or brand new all-wheel drive. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is standard. Newly designed front end, additional bright work and distinctive lighting distinguish the MKZ from its predecessor. The Lincoln MKZ uses genuine materials in the cabin, including real wood, high-quality leather, satin nickel and chromed trim. Satellite radio, power moonroof, heated and cooled front seats, high-intensity-discharge headlamps, and 17-in chrome aluminum 8-spoke wheels are some of the select options. With 15.8-cubic foot trunk and flat load floor, the MKZ has the largest cargo capacity in the premium midsize class.

Not for the shy or stealth sets, the 2007 Lincoln Navigator is a bold full-sized SUV that puts its chrome grille in your face and never backs off. All new for 2007, the Navigator (first seen at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show) comes in two sizes, regular and L, the latter 14.7 inches longer with 25 additional cubic feet of storage behind the back seats. Either way there is three-row seating with PowerFold taking care of the folding chores. Along those lines is available power folding running boards that extend when the doors open. Under the hood is power of a different sort with a 300 horsepower, 5.4-liter V-8 standard, as is a 6 speed automatic transmission. The number of wheels driven depends on the choice of rear or 4-wheel drive.
