We've known for some time now that Land Rover was planning on getting into the hybrid game, but it appears that things are shaking out a bit differently than we had initially expected. It seems the automaker may not use a kinetic-energy flywheel system or the high-tech Electric Rear Axle Drive that has been in the works for the last few years.

I have long loved Range Rovers-for three decades, to be exact. Range Rovers have taken me over some of the world's harshest terrain: Along the Continental Divide. Down the three-point cliff-crumbling turns of Black Bear Pass above Telluride, Colorado. Through the Belizean rain forest and the stark Little Karoo desert of South Africa.

We’ve hunted down Land Rover’s new LRX and it looks like the off-roader is closer than ever. Spied out in the open dressed up as a Freelander, the mule is trying hard to disguise what it really is, but we’ve managed to figure it out. And with its shortened rear end and heavily revised front fascia there’s little else the mini Land Rover could be, the production LRX is expected to be taller than the Freelander though.

There aren't very many vehicles on our blue planet that have soldered on for 61 straight years, but the Land Rover Defender comes up on the short list. The Defender is reason numero uno why Land Rover has the off-road superstar status that it does, but the Detroit Free Press is reporting that the go anywhere SUV may finally be nearing the end of the dirt trail.

Total sales were recorded at over 7,000 in the UK alone, a 27% increase compared to the same month lastyear.

Replacing the popular Land Rover LR3 model for the 2010 year is the evolutionary LR4. Looking in many ways quite similar to the previous model, the LR4 is more refined (particularly on the inside) while still keeping all the functionality that made the LR3 so good. “The outgoing LR3 has well over 100 international awards to its name.

Although this entry doesn’t really revolve around culture, or arguably Liverpool I though I’d jot off a few words about the continuing Jaguar Land Rover situation as the city’s papers (indeed several Trinity Mirror titles, who can spot a trend when they see one) have really gone for broke in their support of the company, now owned by India’s Tata Motors but with a factory in Halewood.
