Kia has officially unveiled the UVO, a new infotainment system set to compete with Ford’s Sync. The UVO will run on Microsoft Windows embedded auto software that’s identical to Ford’s Sync. However, it has features that are not seen on Sync. The UVO will have Microsoft’s new advanced speech recognition software, which recognizes the operator’s voice (up to two different operators) and creates a personal profile for the person.

Kia is no longer taking second stage with respect to in-car technology. This week it's showing a new voice-control system for communication and audio that sounds every bit as full-featured as industry-leading systems such as Ford's Sync. At the time of its launch a few years ago, Ford was the only automaker to offer a simple voice-driven interface that's good for functions ranging from making phone calls to sending messages and even choosing what music to play.

The South Korean automaker says the full-size Borrego sport-utility vehicle will not return to the U.S. for the 2010 model year. The Borrego arrived on the market late in 2008, a victim of poor timing and bad luck. Kia had hoped to sell up to 20,000 Borregos each year, but the U.S. launch coincided with high gas prices and the financial crisis that together, slashed SUV sales to half their 2007 levels.

Just unveiled in its domestic market of South Korea, the all-new Kia Cadenza is set to be introduced throughout several markets in the months to come, including in the U.S. where it will replace the Amanti. Contrary to speculation the car does not ride on the Genesis sedan’s rear-drive architecture (sigh…) but rather on an all-new front-drive platform, which Kia says it will use in additional models in the future.

The Forte Koup is a great little package. Like many Korean designs, the Forte's exterior styling is derivative but the Koup, more than its sedan sibling, is really crisp and attractive and should appeal to the under-25 demographic Kia has set its sights on with this new compact. I'm not a big fan of the two-tone wheels but as standard wheels go on an $18,000 car, they are distinctive, and more importantly, made of alloy, not steel, a rarity for this class.

So the car that we knew as the VG or KND-5 concept is officially named Cadenza and will debut in production form at this years Dubai Motor Show. Kia says that the Cadenza is designed to satisfy drivers’ desire for refinement, safety and emotional satisfaction! Of course it’s not a groundbreaking car, it just features a charming design and a 4I and a V6 engine. But the reason that everyone is excited about it is the badge.
