Stalwart PBS is moving into the interactive science show realm with the new program called Your Week. Currently in beta version, Your Week has figured out that controversial topics are one way to get viewers like you involved. Topics in the new show include Frankenfoods, Christopher Hitchen's views on American politics and that debunked CNW report on the energy use of the Prius vs. the HUMMER.

Way back in February, the NHTSA began investigating certain full-size trucks and SUVs from General Motors for the possibility of their engines spontaneously combusting, even when the ignition key is in the 'off' position. At that time, the investigation covered some 423,000 vehicles, and GM seemed pretty confident that the issue would not be widespread. Yeah, it appears as if the General was a little off in that assessment. The engine fire issue may now affect about 2.7 million vehicles, including all of the latest Chevrolet, GMC and HUMMER full-size models.

We did the pre-run, now it was time for Autoblog to race the Baja 500 with driver Chad Hall and Team HUMMER. Our race day start time wasn't until 10:30, but we got to the start line at 8:30. And then we signed autographs and kissed babies. Well, Chad didn't, but people kept asking us for our autograph, so we obliged. Kids also constantly asked for "steeckers," but we didn't have any of those... Follow the jump to see how Autoblog fared as racing co-pilot, and be sure to check out the gallery of hi-res images below and the insane in-truck video after the jump.

Employing research that they certainly did not get from AOL Autos, Forbes is at it again with a list of the Top 10 Fastest Fictional Cars. One of the things we find odd about the list is that there are a number of cars included that you can actually buy or make pretty easily, like James Bond's Aston Martin DBS or the General Lee. That, and a lot of cars for sale today are as fast or faster than some fictional ones on the list.

For 2008, the iconic HUMMER H2 features numerous changes that deliver a more luxurious, comfortable and refined interior, while retaining HUMMER’s legendary off-road abilities and ruggedness. An all-new powertrain combines a 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission to deliver much improved efficiency, while state-of-the-art safety features are now standard.
In the UK, three HUMMER H2 models are available priced from £48,995 (on-the-road) with a choice of five-door SUV, with seating for up to seven people or SUT (double-cab pick-up) body styles.
All 2008 H2 models are distinguished from previous models by larger openings in the iconic, seven-slot grille and the lower grille (to accommodate the increased cooling air-flow demands of more powerful V8 engine) and the lower bumpers are painted silver, instead of black.

On February 8, the military issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to suppliers, soliciting concepts for a new Joint Light Tactical family of Vehicles (JLTVs). The proposed vehicles with companion trailers are to be capable of performing multiple mission roles to provide protected, sustained, networked mobility for personnel and payloads across the full Range of Military Operations (ROMO). According to Brigadier General John R. Bartley, Program Executive Officer Combat Support & Combat Service Support (PEO CS & CSS), "Commonality of capabilities will be the hallmark of JLTV, a future replacement for some portion of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) for the Army, consisting of 10 sub-configurations in three different payload categories."
The RFP that resulted in the HMMWV (that's the acronym that spawned the Hummer military vehicle that became a GM division) was issued in 1979. The first Hummers rolled off the Mishawaka, Indiana, assembly line in early 1985 and more than 190,000 have been delivered since then. But after five years of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), the military is more than ready to replace it with something much better suited to the new battlefield reality.

Trying to portray a ‘built to do a job’ truck to an environmentally big truck, HUMMER is doing everything it can to get rid of its gas-guzzling image. According to a HUMMER spokesman, HUMMER’s first production E85 models will be the 2009 H2 pickup and H2 SUT. The announcement was made during the opening of the Dallas area dealership’s E85 station. HUMMER said that it is committed to offering biofuel capability on all its vehicles by 2010.
Spending more than $500,000, Classic Chevrolet-HUMMER dealership in Grapevine, Texas, installed nine pumps dedicated to E85, E10 and biodiesel.
“There’s no telling where this might lead,” said Larry Burns, GM vice president of R&D and strategic planning. “Down the road we may even want to consider hydrogen dispensers at dealerships.”
GM plans to offer more than 15 FlexFuel models for the 2009 model year.

HUMMER has partnered with Mountain Rescue (England & Wales), to provide a specially modified vehicle for the UK charity. UK Mountain Rescue celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2008 and to commemorate this landmark, the newly launched right-hand drive HUMMER H3 will support the charity’s busiest teams in England and Wales across the year. The hardy on/off road vehicle will carry both equipment and personnel as Mountain Rescue goes about saving hundreds of lives annually.
Hailed as the off-road vehicle – ‘like nothing else,’ the H3 is one of the most capable off-road vehicles on the market today. Recently introduced into the UK, the H3 is a smaller, more affordable and agile version of the larger H1 and H2 models. In addition to its iconic design, the vehicle boasts a number of advanced off-road features allowing the driver to enjoy full versatility in some of the most gruelling driving conditions nature has to offer.

HUMMER will bring the HX Concept, a nimble, reconfigurable off-road concept vehicle, to the Geneva Motor Show next month. With unmistakable HUMMER design cues and a compact, go-anywhere attitude, the HX is an entry-level, open-air vehicle that packs the off-road acumen for which HUMMER has become legendary into an easily convertible body that acclimates to trail conditions, cargo needs or passenger whims.
“The HX is HUMMER’s vision of an agile, trail-ready, open-air vehicle that fits the lifestyles of everyone who needs or wants to drive off road," said Martin Walsh, HUMMER general manager. "Of course, it carries exceptional off-road capability and the distinctive styling for which all HUMMERs are known.”

Like the visualization of a young boy's nightmare, the Hummer scooter has arrived. An ungraceful mashup of Hummer styling (see the gas cap) and two wheels, this concept drawing from motorcycle artist Oberdan Bezzi certainly looks like a Hummer, but in a way that makes the folks at Autoblog heads hurt. The idea is that this scooter would have a 450 cc powerplant under the distinctive body panels. As we know, the Hummer/scooter debate has been going on for a while now. I wonder how they'll solve this.

A set of leaked (high-resolution) images that found their way into the internet today seem to have spoiled GM’s initial plans to unveil the all-new Hummer H3T Pick-Up at next month’s Chicago Auto Show. Details are scarce for the moment, but we do know that the H3T will have a longer wheelbase than the standard H3 while it will also feature a bedrail system and four in-bed storage compartments. The H3T featured in the pictures is the Alpha version which is equipped with a 295 HP 5.3-liter V8 instead of the standard inline-5.

Embargo-blowing season has begun in earnest in advance of the 2008 Detroit auto show, which starts this Sunday, and the latest victim is the Hummer HX concept. A two-door, open-air vehicle (can you say Jeep Wrangler?), HX is smaller than the H3 and is powered by an E85-capable version of GM's 3.6-liter V-6, mated to a six-speed automatic...
