2009 Acura TL in the buff

The 2009 Acura TL has been spied enough times to rival the Chevrolet Camaro and Nissan GT-R, and even though Acura has already released a teaser of the TL ahead of its official launch, the overly airbrushed glamour shot doesn't accurately reflect what the TL will look like in the flesh.

Spy Shots: Honda NSX interior caught at the 'Ring

We've seen plenty of shots of the Honda/Acura NSX hangin' 'round the 'Ring, but unlike previous photos, the crew at Cartribe was able to catch a brief glimpse of the cloaked mule's interior. A clearer view of the gauges reveals a clean chronograph-like arrangement, with large numerals framed by chrome rings.

2009 Acura TL shows its face, AWD confirmed

The 2009 Acura TL is coming this fall, and Acura has released the first official image of the car. Acura's love-it-or-hate-it new shield-grille face is affixed to the front end of the new sedan, which also sports thin, slanted headlamps and a pair of angular lower intakes. A pronounced accent line sweeps down from back to front, where it leads directly into a very pronounced wheel arch. Looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see the car's posterior.

2009 Acura TL Spotted in Ohio

An eagle-eyed reader over at our Jalopnik friends snapped this picture of a heavily camouflaged 2009 Acura TL prototype roaming the roads of Ohio. The new shot gives us yet another glimpse of the 2009 TL’s strangely formed buttocks. From what we know, the new TL is expected to make its debut at either this November's Los Angeles Auto Show or the Detroit Show in January 2009.

Spy Shots: 2009 Acura TL continues triangular theme

Posted on Jun 24 2008 6:31 AM by Asif

Acura is in the midst of a major restyling of its entire range of sedans. While we've already seen the new TSX and RL (though an even newer RL has been spied), it's the TL that is the bread-and-butter model of the line. From what has been seen already, we're expecting a version of the blocky metal triangle at the front of the model, though the latest spy photos reveal that the angular theme will be carried over to the rear of the vehicle as well.

Acura announced pricing for the all-new 2009 TSX sports sedan

Acura today announced pricing for the all-new 2009 TSX sports sedan that will go on sale at Acura dealerships nationwide on April 24th.

The completely redesigned TSX will be available in two versions: the generously appointed TSX and the fully-featured TSX with Technology Package. MSRP pricing for the TSX is $28,960 and the TSX with Technology Packages is $32,060. The 2009 TSX is available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or 5-speed automatic for no additional charge. Although the new TSX surpasses the previous generation in virtually every way, pricing for the 2009 model represents a modest 4.3 percent sales weighted average price increase. Destination and Handling is not included in MSRP, and for the 2009 TSX remains unchanged at $715.

"The all-new TSX is loaded with more technology, better performance, additional comfort and enhanced safety to make it one of the most desirable sedans in its class," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales. "We expect the dramatically improved 2009 model to set even more sales records than its predecessor."

2009 Acura TL coming in 2 flavors, gets AWD

Posted on Apr 13 2008 3:14 AM by adnana

Honda/Acura had its 2009 dealer meeting in New Orleans last week, and a little birdie that claims to have attended has whispered some details about the 2009 Acura TL in our ears. According to our anonymous tipster, the '09 TL range will consist of two models. The front-wheel-drive car will be powered by a 3.5L V6 delivering 280 horsepower. The step-up version will feature SH AWD and have a 3.7L, 300-horsepower V6 underhood (presumably the same one used in the MDX). We're told the latter car is not a Type-S, by the way -- that trim level goes back into hibernation with the arrival of the '09. Word is, the car "looks amazing." The TL in its current state is Acura's best-looking vehicle, so our curiosity is definitely piqued.

2008 Acura TL Review

Posted on Apr 01 2008 3:09 AM by adnana

The 2008 Acura TL is increasingly becoming an oddball. While there are a handful of front-wheel-drive, entry-level luxury sedans, a scant few can claim to be truly sporty. A real high-performance driving experience can usually only be had when the power is sent to the rear wheels and occasionally all of them. The TL, particularly the Type-S model, sets itself apart by being a front driver that can keep up with (although still not surpass) such rear-drive thoroughbreds as the Infiniti G35. Yet despite this sporty nature, the TL still provides a wonderfully smooth ride and luxury appointments that will make comfort-minded customers happy.

After substantial changes last year, including the return of the Type-S model, the TL carries over unchanged for 2008. That's certainly OK, as Acura's best-selling car has always stood out from the pack since being redesigned for 2004. The TL's wedge-like shape is still attractive as ever, and its spacious interior remains a model of craftsmanship and ergonomics. The base engine operates with utter serenity but still manages to have an engaging character, while the suspension is well-controlled without being a rough rider. Its surround-sound stereo is so good, it's almost enough to justify buying the car alone.

The 2009 Acura TSX making its debut at this year's New York Auto Show

Posted on Mar 20 2008 2:28 AM by adnana

Think of this as "Acura's year of the sedan," And the Japanese automaker's chief marketing executive, Dick Colliver, isn't exaggerating. The 2009 Acura TSX that is making its debut at this year's New York Auto Show is one of three sedans the marque will re-launch this year.

Of the three, none is arguably more important than the entry-luxury Acura TSX, which is designed to draw in young, first-time luxury buyers who the maker hopes will remain loyal to the brand, as they age and - hope goes - increase in affluence.

The TSX is a sporty sedan that, in its new incarnation, is likely to surprise those who think "entry-level" products mean stripped and basic. Quite the contrary. The 2009 Acura TSX is loaded with up-market features, from leather seats to Bluetooth technology for hands-free cellphoning.

Next-gen Acura RL to get V8 power

Posted on Mar 18 2008 7:20 AM by adnana

Apart from Lexus, Japanese luxury brands still pale in comparison to their German rivals in terms of the number of models they produce and the prices they can command. Acura has made it clear it wants to be a top tier luxury brand but to do this it will need to change its lineup to suit the tastes of wealthy buyers, who more often than not demand RWD cars with powerful V8 engines.

That’s why for its next-generation RL sedan due in 2010 Acura will make the car RWD and add a new V8 option. The information comes from an inside source who told Edmunds the new engine will displace 4.8L and output close to 420hp. It will also benefit from cylinder deactivation technology to help improve fuel consumption.

The new RL was originally meant to be based on the Acura Advanced Sedan Concept (pictured) from the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, but it has since been completely restyled after scathing criticism of the original design. Expect to see more of an evolution of the design of the facelifted RL (pictured below), which was launched at last month’s Chicago Show.

Acura recalls 273,000 TLs due to fire fears

Posted on Mar 02 2008 3:46 AM by adnana

Honda put out two recall notices today that affects some 273,000 2004-2008 Acura TLs. One of the recalls addresses a windshield wiper issue, where a potentially faulty circuit breaker on 129,600 '04 and '05 TLs could fail, rendering the wipers useless.

The other recall is a bit more compelling. Apparently an issue with high temperatures under the hood can cause the power steering hose to degrade to the point that it could crack and leak fluid onto the catalytic converter. This could result in a fair amount of smoke, or, at worse, a fire.

Neither issue has resulted in a crash or injury, but Acura dealers have been instructed to replace the power steering hose and, in the case of the windshield wiper motor, inspect the unit and replace it if necessary. Naturally, there's no charge for either recall.

2009 Acura TSX: Premiere at the New York Motor Show

Almost simultaneously with the release of the first images and details of the European Honda Accord, Acura let out a teaser picture of the 2009 TSX that will be unveiled at the forthcoming New York Auto Show (March 19th and 20th). As you can see, the only visible difference between the Euro Accord and the TSX is the grille, so if you want to see more Acura’s sedan just click here and use you’re imagination to change the Honda badges.

Acura won’t compete with Lexus on hybrids

Posted on Feb 09 2008 11:48 AM by adnana

Upmarket Honda brand Acura believes that bigger still is better. Despite indications that the American public may be ready to move to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, the luxury brand intends to keep selling larger vehicles. More surprisingly, despite Lexus’ huge success in the area, Acura will not be selling any hybrid models any time soon, even though Honda is releasing its global hybrid powertrain this year. Instead a new diesel engine will be introduced into the range.

Dick Colliver, executive vice president of Acura, told AutoObserver that hybrids are not a good fit for Acura’s current and future lineup. When it comes to meeting future fuel economy standards with hybrid technology Colliver believes, “when you go into the bigger vehicles, it’s going to be very difficult. Our position is it’s better-suited for smaller cars.”

2009 Acura RL revealed in Chicago

Posted on Feb 06 2008 12:02 PM by adnana

A big update for Acura's flagship sedan gives the RL striking face for perhaps the first time in its career. A big, shield-shaped grille leads the way and leaves no doubt as to its identity, and Acura says that striking look will spread across the lineup to improve the brand's visual impact. A new 3.7 liter V6 is Acura's first engine with VTEC variable valve timing on an SOHC engine, and it makes 300 horsepower. Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive is along for the ride again, of course, and it's all controlled through a five-speed automatic transmission. The SH-AWD's responsiveness has been improved for 2009.
