Mini is adding a 4x4 to its line-up and it is expected to go on sale next year.
The new model is likely to look similar to the Clubman, but it will have a raised right-height and share its underpinnings with the forthcoming BMW X1 - another small SUV expected to go on sale next year.
Although the design will be similar to the Clubman, the Mini 4x4 will have two rear side doors, rather than the single 'suicide' door on the Clubman, and two van-like doors at the back of the car.
It is expected to be longer than the Clubman, giving more legroom and a larger load area. A 118bhp 1.6-litre petrol, a 109bhp 1.6-litre diesel and a 173bhp 1.6-litre petrol are likely to be included in the engine line-up. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard and an automatic 'box will be optional.
