Lincoln will be phasing out its second run at the pickup truck market when it discontinues the Mark LT at the end of the 2008 model year, according to an Automotive News report. The Mark LT has been in production since 2005 and has sold 28,117 examples through July 2007 -- short of the 20,000 unit annual sales figure that was projected by the automaker.
While Ford officials have refused to verify the fate of the Mark LT, sources have brought the luxury pickup's demise to light. Based on the Ford F-150 pickup truck, the Mark LT was rumored to undergo a major revision for 2008 -- instead, production will give way to a planned high-end F-150 Platinum edition. The F-150 is scheduled for a 2009 redesign.
